This is a collection of exercises inspired by so many different sources throughout my teaching career.  I’ve modified them to fit the needs of my violin and trumpet mariachi students.  

For many years, I used these exercises as a way to rank my violin players going into their second and third year of mariachi.  The goal was for the student to get as many exercises checked off successfully.  The top 8-10 violins would be placed in the top varsity group, and the rest would be placed in the second group.  The routine of consistently practicing these exercises and using them to audition students for the upcoming year proved to be an excellent method, and consistently placed my better violin players at the top.

Most of the exercises can be further modified to make them more challenging for the more advanced students.  The director can add slurs and different articulations, for example.  

The armonía books are merely accompaniments for the violin and trumpet students.  The harp book has the same melody as the violin and trumpet, and for the most part, the same bass notes as the guitarrón.
